THE BUILDER WILL RECEIVE A REWARD

THE BUILDER WILL RECEIVE A REWARD

As a child I remember playing with the building blocks, and frequently used to build different types of houses. It used to be really exciting. In Mathew chapter 7 verses 24 to 27 JESUS speaks a parable about the Wise and Foolish Builders. He says a wise man built his house upon the rock and a foolish man built his house on the sand. The building of houses is basically reflecting the building of our own lives. We need to realize that every one of us is responsible in constructing our lives. Having realized this responsibility, we should be like the wise builder, who chose to build on the Rock. Our Rock is JESUS. 1 Corinthians 3:11 says, Jesus Christ is our foundation. Jesus says whoever hears his words and puts them into practice, he is a wise man. By listening and doing the word of God we will be building our lives wisely.

The very need to build like a wise man is, all works are going to be tested. 1 Corinthians 3: 13 and 14 says “….the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.”

In the parable, the houses built by the wise man and the foolish man both face heavy storms and floods. Ultimately the house on the rock stood still and the house built on the sand crashed. As floods tested the strength of the houses and the one built on rock stood strong. So I believe our lives also stand strong when built on the word of God. We read in Proverbs 10:25: “When the storm has swept by the wicked are gone, but the Righteous stand firm forever.” Proverbs 12:7 says “….. The house of the Righteous stands firm.”

Let us remember this parable and be like the wise man who hears the words of Jesus and puts them into practice. For surely the Builder receives his reward!!  Our Lord says: “Look! I am coming soon, and my reward is with me to pay each one according to what he has done!” Revelation 22:12.
